Duchess is 10 months old now and definitely come into her own. She rules the roost and she knows it! She gets along great with my other dog, King, and just about every other animal she meets. She loves to ride in the truck and to go for walks. She also is quite the avid squirrel chaser and mole hunter. She has grown a lot and she is very smart!! She knows some of the simple commands like sit and lie down. We are working on high-fives, and staying out of the garbage. She has been such a blessing and definitely keeps us all on our toes.
I adopted Rosie in May of 2013. I saw her at the farmer’s market that they have downtown and managed to talk my mom into fostering her. I really wanted to adopt her, but we already had 3 dogs and I wasn’t sure how it would work out. I remember crying all the way to her first adoption event after we fostered her. After mom and I dropped her off, I made a deal with her. If Rosie was still there after the adoption event, she was mine….The rest, as they say, is history. Why I love Rosie: She makes me smile every day. I know that all I have to do is say her name and she’ll come running. She greets me at the door every night when I get back from work. Whenever I look her in the eyes, all I see is love. She steals the best spot on the bed every night and uses her entire body to take up more space than should by physically possible. She means a lot to me and I love her very very much.
Was Adopted in August 2013
Why I love Trixie: She is the world’s best cuddler! She’ll never say no to a warm lap or a tap on the couch. She also has the sweetest face. Sometimes, when you look at her, you can see this contentment in her eyes that always makes me smile…..I also love how she can destroy a squeaky toy in under a minute. We’ve managed to find two that have lasted about 6 months so we’re hoping they last longer.
Diego / Edgar
When we first got Edgar, he was about 25 pounds and was underweight. We had agreed to foster him for 2 weeks at the beginning of November for Homeward Bound. By day two, I knew we had a problem. Mom and I debated for several days about if we should ask to adopt him or not. We asked and, due to some unforeseen circumstances, we adopted him.He now weighs about 40 pounds and has been put on a diet. (We were a little too good at feeding him). Edgar is my mother’s flower child. He loves sitting out in the backyard an watching the trees. He can spend all day outside just watching. He is Rosie’s best friend and you can often find the two of them wrestling in the house or the backyard.
Attached are 2 pictures of our sweet girl, Autumn. We adopted her on March 1, 2014. Her original name was Charlotte. Autumn is such a joy to us! She is absolutely hilarious and is always rolling around playing with toys. She also loves fetch and playing in the backyard with her sister Zoe. Autumn is always in a happy, playful, excited mood and brightens everyone's day! She loves saying hi to all our neighbors on our walks. She also loves road trips-especially ones to the beach! Autumn is a wonderful sister to Zoe and we just adore her sweet disposition! Our family wouldn't be the same without her!
Thank you for taking such good care of our girl before we found her!

" I adopted Gunner almost a year ago, on August 1st. He is extremely smart and undeniably a Mama's boy. So far he has learned many tricks, including non-verbal commands, and he is learning more everyday! I love my little (big, now) man because no matter what, he's always there with a toothy grin and a cuddle. "

"This is Hope, formerly Vivien. We adopted her October. The first picture is the picture that stole my heart. The second was on the drive home our first day. The other two of how big she has gotten since then.
I knew I missed having a dog, but I did not know just how much until Hope came in to our home. She makes awful days not so bad and great days even better.
She adores my son and mopes when he isn't around. Thank you Grassroots for connecting me to my girl. She restored my soul in so many ways."

"When my boyfriend and I adopted Sox (formerly Reggie) we had no idea what to expect. We were flying a dog who we had never met over 1000 miles to us. It is safe to say it was the best decision we have ever made. Sox celebrated his first birthday last month and is so full of energy! The best way to describe him is a Velcro dog. He loves nothing more than being as close as possible to either one of us. He love his squeaky toys and going for long walks and his favorite food is cheese. He may only weigh 10 pounds but what he means to us is unmeasurable. Every day we thank Grassroots for finding such a perfect fit for us and rescuing this little man!"

"This is Hally! We didn't change her name when we adopted her--she wore it so well! We adopted Hally in April 2014. She was about 8 weeks old when we adopted her.
Hally has been the perfect companion. We adopted her as newlyweds and have so enjoyed having her sweet face greet us everyday after work. She loves to play! She loves to run! She is friendly to all, and we are so thankful for Grassroots Animal Rescue. We can't imagine our lives without her in them.
Based on the photos, you can tell that she rules the roost around here and gets nothing short of all of our attention daily."

"I adopted Garth September 27, 2014. His name is now Wayne Black. I already owned a 6 year old golden retriever, Emerson when I adopted him. They have become inseparable best friends and we couldn't be a happier family of 3! He has brought me so much joy and I would like to think I've done the same for him. I truly believe there's nothing better than rescuing a dog. I'm so glad I get to give Wayne the life every dog deserves. He is one spoiled baby and I thank you so much for doing what you do. I did a Wisdom Panel DNA test a month after I adopted him; turns out the little guy is Australian Shepherd, Lab, American Foxhound and Miniature Schnauzer. Wayne, Emerson and I thank you for your commitment to saving animals lives!"
